PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an automatic analyzer capable of defining the stop position of a dispensation probe in short time, and its stop position setting method. SOLUTION: A position setting part 35 sets up adjustment positions of p-th and (p+1)-th points above a tool 80 arranged to meet a center plane 83 below each stop position of each dispensation probe, downward moves each dispensation probe to p-th and (p+1)-th detection positions detected by each liquid level detector 18a, 18b, 18c after horizontally moving each dispensation probe to p-th and (p+1)-th adjustment positions, creates p-th and (p+1)-th downward move distance data corresponding to distances between adjustment positions of p-th and (p+1)-th points and the p-th and (p+1)-th detection positions, and determines the p-th and (p+1)-th detection positions based on the downward move distance data of the created p-th and (p+1)-th downward move distance data.
