PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a transfer apparatus capable of enhancing the traveling stability of an intermediate transfer body by reducing the primary transfer pressure of a primary transfer member coming in contact with an image carrier, and to provide an image forming apparatus equipped with the transfer apparatus, wherein generation of color misalignment is prevented so as to improve the image quality. SOLUTION: The transfer apparatus 5 includes: the intermediate transfer body 50 arranged facing a plurality of juxtaposedly arranged image carriers 1Y to 1Bk, and stretched on a plurality of rollers 51 and 52; and primary transfer members 53Y to 53Bk arranged facing the image carriers with interposing the intermediate transfer body. One roller 51 among the plurality of rollers has a function to drive the intermediate transfer body, a function to constitute a secondary transfer area and also a function as a counter part with a cleaning means. The primary transfer members 53Y to 53Bk are arranged offset from the image carriers on the downstream side in the intermediate transfer body conveying direction, then, the primary transfer pressure is reduced, and the traveling stability of the intermediate transfer body is enhanced.
