摘要 PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To suppress fluctuation in a common potential supplied to a counter electrode in a liquid crystal device. SOLUTION: The liquid crystal device 1 is provided with a TFT array substrate 10, a counter substrate 20 disposed so as to be opposed to the TFT array substrate 10, a liquid crystal layer 50 which contains liquid crystal molecules 50a having negative dielectric anisotropy and is held between the TFT array substrate 10 and the counter substrate 20, a pixel electrode 9a formed on the TFT array substrate 10 and the counter electrode 21 which is formed on the counter substrate 20 so as to be opposed to the pixel electrode 9a and to which the common potential VCOM is supplied. The liquid crystal device is further provided with an alignment layer 16 covering the pixel electrode 9a on the TFT array substrate 10 and an alignment layer 22 covering the counter electrode 21 on the counter substrate 20. A pretilt angleθ2 of the liquid crystal molecules 50a on the surface of the alignment layer 22 is 1.5 to 2.0 times as large as a pretilt angleθ1 of the liquid crystal molecules 50a on the surface of the alignment layer 16.
