摘要 <P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To enhance the utilization factor of a catalyst and suppress drop in durability of a fuel cell caused by oxidative corrosion of a carrier carrying a catalyst in a membrane electrode assembly for the fuel cell. <P>SOLUTION: In the membrane electrode assembly for the fuel cell having a fuel electrode on one side of an electrolyte membrane and an oxidant electrode on the other side, at least one of the fuel electrode and the oxidant electrode contains metal catalyst nano-particles having a primary particle diameter of 0.3-100 nm without carrying them on a carrier the electrochemically active surface area of the metal catalyst nano-particles is 10-150 m<SP>2</SP>/g, and the thickness of a non-carried catalyst-containing catalyst layer is 10 &mu;m or less. <P>COPYRIGHT: (C)2008,JPO&INPIT
