<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method and device for generating random numbers to be used in a security protocol for controlling access to a data processing system. <P>SOLUTION: A processor generates random numbers relevant to a counter-electromotive force (BEMF) value. The BEMF value is obtained in response to current application to a circuit. The circuit includes a coil, and the relatively small movement of the coil is induced according to current application. The random numbers are multi-bit digital values, and each bit of the random numbers is determined relevantly to whether or not the corresponding BEMF value is an even number or an odd number. The coil includes the coil of a voice coil motor (VCM) to be used for adjacently positioning a transducer in a rotatable storage medium, and the random numbers are generated while a medium is put in a non-rotatable status. <P>COPYRIGHT: (C)2008,JPO&INPIT |
