PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a heat insulating material stretchable in the width direction or the longitudinal direction in addition to the thickness direction. SOLUTION: The heat insulating material 1 can be shrunk in not only the thickness direction but also the width direction or the longitudinal direction. Thereby, the heat insulating material can be compressed and inserted according to the width of spaces 13 to be filled. When the compressed state is released, the heat insulating material expands in the width direction and a gap can be sealed by adaptation to the dimensions in the wall to exhibit heat insulating effects. Since the heat insulating material 1 has stretchability even in the thickness direction, the heat insulating material can tightly fills the space without expanding an interior finish material by introducing a rather thick product than the thickness of the spaces 13 into the spaces.
