PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an inexpensive load detecting device that withstands long term use and can be easily attached to an existing constituent and is used. SOLUTION: In the load detecting device for determining the load of an occupant on an automobile sheet 1, a rotating member 3 is rotatably arranged on a locking rod 4 of a sheet frame, an end of a seat cushion spring 5 is joined with the rotating member 3, and a sensor means detects that the rotating member turns by a predetermined amount according to the load of the occupant. The sensor means optically detects the rotation of the rotating member 3. For example, the sensor means detects the quantity of light according to the load from an opening disposed in the locking rod and the rotating member. The sensor means detects the rotation of the rotating member 3 magnetically or electrically.
