System for displaying messages or the like on a lift, in which the system includes a rotating cylinder (2) which can be fixed to a lift shaft and a long width (4) of a flexible material, the width having a first end which is secured to the cylinder for rolling up on and off from and a second end which can be fixed in the lift shaft to a displaceably arranged lift car (3). The system includes an electrically driven motor (1) which is connected to the cylinder in order to drive the cylinder to rotate at least in the rolling up direction.
