PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To reduce time required for detection processing.

SOLUTION: A communication apparatus 12 includes an antenna 31 for outputting an electromagnetic wave acting like a carrier for close communication in compliance with types A to C, respectively; and a radio communication section 32 for awaiting communication by a prescribed guard time specified in the respective communication systems and modulating the electromagnetic wave by data to transmit a polling command. Further, the radio communication section 32 uses the guard time of the type B that is shorter than the guard time of the type C also as the guard time of the type C. The technology above can be applied to a mobile phone incorporating an IC card reader/writer.
