PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a compact electric furnace comprised of a long life lanthanum chromite-based heating element with a large effective heating area of the heating element, capable of using at high temperature, and capable of carrying out rapid heating since it is superior in impact resistance. SOLUTION: The cylindrical lanthanum chromite-based heating element is comprised of a heating part and both ends. It is characterized by that a specific resistance of a material of the heating part at 1000°C is within a range of 0.1-3.5Ωcm, a specific resistance of a material of both ends at 1000°C is within a range of 0.02-0.5Ωcm, a difference between electric resistances of the heating part and both ends is provided at an optimal ratio by changing the specific resistances of the materials, an inner diameter of the heating element is relatively increased by reducing a thickness of both ends, and a shape of the heating element is set within a proper range.
