PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an electronic key capable of improving an appearance and the designability of a component in a case. SOLUTION: A mechanical emergency key 18 is stored in a portable machine 2 so as to enable the locking/unlocking of a door and the start of an engine even if a battery 17 runs out. The emergency key 18 can be split in the lengthwise direction of the key. When the emergency key 18 is housed in the case 16, it is housed in the case 16 in the state of being split into two pieces, that is, first and second split keys 20 and 21.
