PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a cutting insert capable of reducing cutting resistance, improving strength of a cutting blade positioned at the head end side of a holder and reducing chattering vibration and damage of the cutting blade in machining even in heavy cutting work under a more serious cutting condition. SOLUTION: This cutting insert is constituted by forming a rake face 3 on an upper surface of a main body part, a seating surface 2 on a lower surface, a flank 4 on a side surface and the cutting blade 5 on at least one part of an intersection part of the rake face 3 and the flank 4, and width 6A of a first groove part 6A positioned nearest to one end side out of a plurality of the groove parts 6 formed on the flank 4 so as to reach the rake face 3 is smaller than width 6a of the second groove part 6a adjacent to the first groove part 6A.
