In an E.H.T. supply to the cathode ray tube of a television receiver, which supply comprises a line-scanning transformer 2, 3, a rectifier 4 and a filter 6, 7, and 14, the filter comprising the self capacitance 6 of a supply cable 5, an ohmic resistor 7 and the self capacitance of cathode ray coatings 12, 13, protection is provided for the resistor 7 in the event of its being overloaded due to a short-circuit in the rectifier circuit. The protection is effected by a spark gap 8 across the resistor, and is physically constituted by a length of insulated wire having a bared end wound round one resistor terminal and an insulated end wound round the other. On overheating of the resistor the insulation breaks down, first sparking and then creating a short circuit across the resistor. |
