PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a device for accommodating fuel assemblies which significantly curbs measurement errors of neutron multiplication effects due to a fluctuation in neutron counting rates caused by the misregistration of fuel assemblies and a neutron detector in accommodation cells when spent fuel assemblies are accommodated in a device for accommodating them, and also to provide a method for positioning a system for measuring subcriticality in the device for accommodating the fuel assemblies. SOLUTION: In the method for positioning the system for measuring subcriticality in the device 1 for accommodating the fuel assemblies 10 where the fuel assemblies 10 and the neutron detector 16 are accommodated separately in the accommodation cells 9 shaped like lattices by partition boards 8, the neutron detector 16 is shaped like a square rod and the position where the neutron detector 16 is accommodated in one of the accommodation cells 9 is fixed by putting all the corner sections 22 of the neutron detector 16 into contact with the partition boards 8 through the rotation of the neutron detector 16 on its axis when the neutron detector 16 is accommodated in the accommodation cell 9.
