[Also in Division B3] A connecting rod for an internal combustion engine comprises a cast part 1 of lightweight metal, e.g. aluminium or zinc or alloys of those metals, and a core part 3 of steel. The core 3 is flattened where it extends around the gudgeon-pin socket portion 5 and has threaded ends 11 which project from the big end portion 7 and serve as studs for the big end cap (not shown). In a modification, Fig. 2 (not shown), the core is crossed upon itself in the cast part adjacent the gudgeon-pin socket portion. |
