A hopper 15 for delivering granular plastic material &c. to a mould M has a nozzle 16 which is so dimensioned that when obturated, as by the mould becoming filled, the further free fall of material is prevented by the formation of a bridging plug of material within the nozzle. Further delivery is initiated by building up a gaseous pressure within the hopper 15 by compressed air delivered through a pipe 13 under the control of a valve 14 which may be actuated automatically on closure of the mould M. Material is delivered to the hopper 15 by free fall from a supply hopper A through a valve 8 which is normally spring-urged to the open position but automatically closes under the action of air pressure during emptying of the hopper 15.
