In a method for eliminating icing of rotor blade surfaces of wind power installations, provision is made for, owing to the heating of parts of the iced surface, the ice to be detached from the top layer surface (7) by means of a film of water and at the same time a thermal and/or mechanical expansion of the top layer material (7) to be produced which produces a change in the surface structure of the rotor blade surfaces of the wind power installation and of the ice surface. In an apparatus for eliminating icing of rotor blade surfaces of wind power installations having a heating apparatus (5) on the inside of the apparatus surface, provision is made for one or more parts of the rotor blade surface (7) to be arranged displaceably on the wind power installation, as a result of which reliable deicing of rotor blade surfaces of a wind power installation can be achieved.
