INFORMATION RECORDING MEDIUM AND METHOD FOR PRODUCTION THEREOF

Disclosed is an information recording medium comprising a substrate and an information layer including a recording layer. The recording and retrieval of information is achieved by irradiation of the information layer with a laser bean. The recording layer mainly comprises a material comprising Te, O and M (wherein M represents at least one element selected from Ru, Rh, Pd, Ag, Re, Os, Ir, Pt and Au). In the material, the Te atom content is 1 to 19 at%, the O atom content is 20 to 70 at% (preferably 40 to 70 at%), and the M atom content is 11 to 79 at% (preferably 11 to 59 at%, more preferably more than 35 at%). For example, the material has a composition falling within the range shown by an area bordered with A, B, C and D, preferably C, D, E and F, more preferably E, F, H and G, in the Te-O-Pd three-component compositional diagram shown in Fig. 1.
