<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a thermal recording medium the recording part of which has a high density, which keeps the white paper part and the recording part excellent in glossiness, makes a printing obstacle due to sticking or the like, or blocking hard to occur, and keeps the recording part excellent in shelf stability. <P>SOLUTION: In the thermal recording medium which has a thermal recording layer containing a leuco dye and a coloring agent, and a protective layer provided sequentially on a substrate, the protective layer is constituted mainly of a core-shell type acrylic resin, and a lubricant layer containing silicone oil having a dynamic viscosity (25°C) of 0.50-2.0 m<SP>2</SP>/s is provided on the protective layer.
