PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a route guide device capable of guiding a route capable of attaining a traveling purpose satisfying a user, even if the user does not decide the traveling purpose specifically. SOLUTION: The route guide device includes a map database 1 for storing hierarchical purpose information relative to the traveling purpose of the user, a purpose extraction part 4 for extracting lower-grade purpose information corresponding to the purpose information from the map database 1 based on the purpose information selected by the user, a route searching part 5 for searching for a route attaining the lower-grade purpose information extracted by the purpose extraction part 4, a branch determination part 6 for retrieving a branch point existing on the route searched for by the route searching part 5, and an input/output device 20 such as a display device 11 for presenting the lower-grade purpose information extracted by the purpose extraction part 4 as choices to the user before a vehicle reaches the branch point retrieved by the branch determination part 6.
