PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an instrument for measuring lubricant degradation that can keep the thickness of a lubricant and the distances of a light-emitting section and light-receiving section fixed, and easily detect the degradation of the lubricant sampled on site. SOLUTION: The lubricant degradation measuring instrument 1 has a scissors-like instrument body 2, where a pair of support members 6 and 6, whose base end side 6a works as a handle are openably/closably interconnected, and the distance between the tips is constant in the closed state. The light-emitting section 3 and light-receiving section 4 that face each other to have the lubricant 9 interposed between them are disposed at the tips 6b and 6b of the pair of support members 6 and 6 of the scissors-like instrument body 2, respectively. The scissors-like instrument body 2 is provided with a determining means 5 for determining the light transmittance of the lubricant 9, based on the output of the light-receiving section 4 and detecting the amount of the foreign substance mixed in the lubricant 9.
