PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To solve a problem wherein deviation of the air-fuel ratio for each cylinder of a multi-cylinder internal combustion engine must be corrected in a different manner between a method for correcting the multi-cylinder internal combustion engine having cylinders of an odd number, and a method for correcting the multi-cylinder internal combustion engine having cylinders of an even number. SOLUTION: The problem is solved by providing: an air-fuel ratio sensor mounted on an assembly part of exhaust pipes of a multi-cylinder internal combustion engine; a means for obtaining the air-fuel ratio of each cylinder of the multi-cylinder engine for at least two calculated values of the crank angle of the internal combustion engine for every 360°and the crank angle of the internal combustion engine for integer times of 360°based on the output of the air-fuel ratio sensor, and for obtaining the center air-fuel ratio from the obtained average air-fuel ratio of each cylinder; and an air-fuel ratio control device of the internal combustion engine for specifying the cylinders to correct the air-fuel ratio based on the comparison of the obtained center air-fuel ratio with the air-fuel ratio of each cylinder.
