PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To enable printing to be immediately started without moving a carriage to an actual printing starting position, and to speed up the printing by eliminating a printing waiting time or the wasteful carrying which become obstacles for the speeding up of the printing. SOLUTION: This processing device starts the printing in a state in which a carried printing paper is set at the printing starting position, and is equipped with a carrying control section 106 which controls the carrying amount of the printing paper in response to the length of characters to be printed on the printing paper. The carrying control section 106 carries the printing paper to a position from which the printing of the characters of a designated length is started in the printing region of the printing paper.
