PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a cutting method which carries out a stable cutting operation by achieving a cutting path capable of suppressing vibrations. SOLUTION: A groove portion 16 is cut using a small diameter ball endmill 21 having the same radius as that of the rounded corner portion 14 of a pocket portion 12 to be formed in a workpiece 11 so as to form the wall portion 13 and the rounded corner portion 14 of the pocket portion 12. After that, the bottom portion 15 of the pocket portion 12 is formed by removing an island portion 17 partitioned by the groove portion 16 using a large diameter ball endmill 31 having the diameter larger than that of the small diameter ball endmill 21.
