The invention relates to therapy, prophylaxis and diagnosis of degenerative diseases, in particular, neurodegenerative diseases. The invention particularly relates to genes and proteins, regulated in cells as a function of chronic oxidative stress and which find application in therapy, prophylaxis and diagnosis of degenerative diseases, in particular, neurodegenerative diseases. The invention further relates to the use of genes and proteins, regulated as a function of chronic oxidative stress in cells, for the screening of candidate substances to identify prophylactic and/or therapeutic agents which modulate the biological activity of genes and/or proteins activated in cells as a function of chronic oxidative stress. The invention also relates to a method for diagnosis of degenerative diseases, in particular, neurodegenerative diseases and a method for identifying prophylactic and/or therapeutic agents which modulate the biological activity of genes and/or proteins activated in cells as a function of chronic oxidative stress. Kits for carrying out the diagnostic method are also disclosed. |
