A method for transmitting/receiving control information of a multi-mode mobile terminal is provided to update and obtain effectively control information for handover between different networks. An MIH(Media Independent Handover) of a multi-mode mobile terminal receives information indicating that a connection of a wireless LAN link will be released in a certain time from a link layer(S401). An MIHF(MIH Function) of the mobile terminal transmits a link_going_down primitive indicating(S402). An upper management entity of the mobile terminal instructs to scan a different link and an interface link layer scans an actual link(S403). A scanned broadband wireless access link is transferred to the MIHF(S404). A broadband access system link layer transmits changed physical layer parameters to the MIHF or an upper entity(S405). The MIHF or the upper entity stores the changed information through an information update request to and response from an information server(S406,S407). In order to request information with respect to a link with a new AP(Access Point), the multi-mode mobile terminal transmits an MIH_Get_Information.request to a current AP(S408). The current AP relays the inquiry according to the MIH_Get_Information.request to an information server to request information for handover from the new AP(S409). The information server includes response information in a primitive and transmits it to the mobile terminal(S410,S411). The MIHF of the mobile terminal transmits an inquiry through an MIH_Get_Information.request and an MIH_Get_Information.response directly to the information server to obtain information updated by the new AP(S412,S413). The MIHF of the mobile terminal transmits a link connect command including information obtained from the information server(S414). A base station broadcasts a DL-MAP and a UL-MAP to the mobile terminal at each frame to transfer information about the structure of a frame for a data burst and band allocation, etc.(S415). The mobile terminal performs a procedure for 2-layer connection to the base station of the new AP(S416). |
