PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method for cleaning a metallic component and/or an electronic component using a hydroxyisobutyric ester having excellent storage stability, and thus causing no decomposition and discoloration during storage. SOLUTION: The method for cleaning a metallic component and/or an electronic component uses a hydroxyisobutyric ester selected fromα-hydroxyisobutyric methyl,α-hydroxyisobutyric ethyl,α-hydroxyisobutyric propyl,α-hydroxyisobutylic butyl,β-hydroxyisobutylic methyl,β-hydroxyisobutylic ethyl,β-hydroxyisobutylic propyl andβ-hydroxyisobutylic butyl, in which the content of acid components is regulated to 0.001 to 0.5 mass%, and whose storage stability is improved.
