PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a porous material composed of a metal soap derived from resin acids or rosins and provide a method for producing the porous material. SOLUTION: The metal soap is produced by gelling a gelling object by using at least one kind of material selected from resin acids, rosins and metal salts of rosins, an alkaline earth metal compound and water and removing the gelling object from the obtained gel. The method for producing a metal soap comprises the gelling of a gelling object by using at least one kind of material selected from resin acids, rosins and metal salts of rosins, an alkaline earth metal compound and water and the removal of the gelling object from the obtained gel.
