A mechanism for holding a plate-like body, stably holding the plate-like body so that it is not damaged during transportation. The mechanism for holding a plate-like body has a holder member for holding a glass plate as the plate-like body and a fixed member in which the holder member is fitted. The holder member has a pair of surface pressing sections for holding the front and rear surfaces of the plate-like body from both sides, a pair of supporting sections for supporting the surface pressing sections, and a connection section for connecting the pair of supporting sections to each other. When the holder member is fitted in the fitting recess of the fixed member with the plate-like body disposed between the pair of supporting sections, the holder member generates pressing force by an effect of the weight of the plate-like body.The pressing force presses the pair of surface pressing sections, which hold the plate-like body, in the direction in which the pair approach closer to each other, causing the pair of surface pressing sections to strongly and stably hold the plate-like body.
