[Also in Division H1] A sign comprising a pair of opposed translucent panels 5 (Fig. 2, not shown) is supported by a central, rigid and opaque post 2 attached to the sign framework 1, and illuminated by a single elongated discharge tube 8, bent to illuminate the panels uniformly, disposed centrally in the sign and lying in one plane except at regions A, B, C where tube 8 is looped (Fig. 3) to avoid the post 2. The tube 8 may be spiral in form, as shown, or zig-zag. The tube is supported by various struts 11,12,13 and these, together with tubular steel post 2 inside the sign, are painted matt white or made reflecting. The electric supply leads may pass inside post 2, which is welded to steel frame 1. The post 2 outside the sign may be reinforced by a steel sleeve 17 welded thereto and to frame 1. Dish-shaped panels 5 bear coloured inscriptions &c., and are attached to framework 1 by rubber sealing strips engaging over panels 5 and flanges on framework 1 and held by bezels. |
