PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To associate motion vectors with pixels of an interpolation frame as many as possible. SOLUTION: A motion vector detection section uses a built-in block setting section to divide a reference image into blocks each with a prescribed size, provides a searching range greater than the block to a comparison image, and a motion vector is detected by each block through the comparison. The block setting section divides the reference image into the blocks each with the prescribed size, and in this case, overlapped parts overlapped to other blocks is provided to each block. That is, unlike conventional block division using the block matching method, the block setting section divides the reference image into blocks in a way that each block produces the overlapping parts to other blocks adjacent to two sides of each block among four upper/lower/left/right sides of each block as shown in Fig. 4.
