PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a rare gas fluorescent lamp for general illumination in which high light emission efficiency is carried out and in which light distribution characteristics have been improved. SOLUTION: In the vicinity of a columnar or a pyramidal outer electrode 1 with a nearly round or a nearly polygonal bottom shape, by arranging a light emitting tube composed of a glass tube 2 in which an inner electrode 3 exposed in discharge gas is sealed in at least one end part, and the rare gas fluorescent lamp for the general illumination in which high light emission efficiency is carried out and in which the light distribution characteristics have been improved can be realized.
