PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an outboard motor having a simple structure capable of performing the optimum engine control according to the right and left cylinder groups by independently changing the effective pipe length of a pair of right and left air intake pipes. SOLUTION: In the outboard motor 1, a V-type engine 10 is arranged with a crank shaft 10a being longitudinally arranged; right and left long air intake pipes 36a and right and left short air intake pipes 36b for communicating a surge tank 200 arranged in a cowl 3 with an air intake port 32e of each cylinder group of a right bank of the engine 10 are provided; and the long air intake pipes 36a and the short air intake pipes 36b are changed according to information on the operating condition of a hull or the outboard motor. The outboard motor 1 comprises a pair of right and left on-off valves 201 for changing each of the long air intake pipes 36a and the short air intake pipes 36b, a pair of right and left actuators 203 for independently driving the pair of right and left on-off valves 201 according to information on the operating condition, and a control means 800 for controlling the drive of the actuators 203.
