摘要 PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an alignment layer, its manufacturing method, and a liquid crystal display having the layer. SOLUTION: The alignment layer comprises a silicon oxide (SiOx) thin layer. The silicon oxide thin layer horizontally aligns a liquid crystal thereon when the value of x is in the range from 1.0 to 1.5; and the silicon oxide thin layer vertically aligns the liquid crystal thereon, when the value of x is in the range from 1.5 to 2.0. Thereby, the alignment layer can be easily formed on a large area of a substrate through chemical vapor deposition or evaporation deposition. Because the alignment layer is stable thermally and physically, the operating characteristics of the liquid crystal display device employing this alignment layer are improved. Moreover, the alignment layer has appropriate thickness that ranges from 50 to 300 nm, which improves light transmittance of the liquid crystal display employing the alignment layer.
