A parking assistance device where obstacle detection means and parking frame line detection means cooperate appropriately to enable assistable target parking positions to be selectively determined based on an appropriate order of priority. The parking assistance device has the obstacle detection means for detecting an obstacle around a vehicle and also has the parking frame line detection means for detecting a parking frame line drawn on the ground. When the parking frame line is detected by the parking frame line detection means, the device calculates a target parking position based on the detected parking frame line.
