An apparatus for adjusting a size of user data in a mobile terminal and a method thereof are provided to control a display size or format adaptively according to the user data such as a short message, a menu or an image. A method for adjusting a size of user data in a mobile terminal comprises the following several steps. The mobile terminal displays a short message at the user's request(901). The mobile terminal enlarges or reduces the short message according to predetermined enlargement or reduction ratio in correspondence to an enlargement or reduction key event(903-917). The mobile automatically arranges the short message according to sizes of characters in the short message and displays the automatically arranged short message.
