PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a printer accomplishing enhancement of quietness. SOLUTION: The ink jet printer is provided with a paper feed tray 24; a shaft 14; and a pickup roller 16. The pickup roller 16 is rotated with the shaft 14 around a central shaft 81 and conveys the paper 60 placed on the paper feed tray 24. The pickup roller 16 has an outer peripheral surface 16a. The pickup roller 16 is varied in the state that the paper 60 is in contact with the outer peripheral surface 16a and in the state that the paper 60 and the outer peripheral surface 16a are left from each other by increasing/decreasing a distance between the paper feed tray 24 and the pickup roller 16. When the pickup roller 16 is varied from the state that the paper 60 and the outer peripheral surface 16a are left from each other to the state that they are in contact with each other, the shaft 14 is positioned such that a cross sectional shape becomes approximately line-symmetric relative to a linear line 82 tieing a position of the outer peripheral surface 16a in contact with the paper 60 and the central shaft 81.
