SEPARATOR FOR BATTERY WITH GEL POLYMER LAYER

A separator for a battery is provided to realize an improved degree of swelling with an electrolyte, to increase the amount of an electrolyte injected into a battery, and to impart improved cycle characteristics and high-rate discharge characteristics to a battery. A separator for a battery comprises a substrate, and a gel polymer layer formed on the substrate and having a plurality of open three-dimensional pores interconnected among themselves. The gel polymer layer is formed by adding a non-solvent to a gel polymer solution containing a gel polymer dissolved in a solvent so that the gel polymer solution is separated into a gel polymer-enriched phase and a gel polymer-free phase.
