PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain a control method of an optical fiber amplifier in which generation of an excessive signal light output can be avoided without complicating the optical circuit and the control circuit for intermittent amplification of an optical signal. SOLUTION: In an optical fiber amplifier where signal light and pumping light enter an optical amplification fiber and the signal light is amplified, a nonlinear photocoupler is provided on the signal light output end side in order to prevent optical surge output.
