A rotor structure (1) for a motor comprising a rotor (10) having an end surface (20); a shaft (11) extending from the end surface (20); an encoder member (12) attached to the end surface (20) of the rotor (10); and coupler (22) coupled to the shaft adjacent to the encoder member for coupling a further member to the shaft, in which the coupler (22) surrounds the shaft (11) and has a lip (23) associated therewith, the lip (23) extending from the coupler towards the encoder member so as to define a void (24) between the coupler (22) and the encoder (12) member The void defined by the rotor structure may act to contain matters such a swarf that is ejected from the rotor when the encoder member is fixed to the rotor. The rotor may be used in a motor of an electric power assisted steering (EPAS) system.
