PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To effectively utilize buttons of a multi-functional telephone set or the like without requiring separate buttons, when responding to a call arriving at the extension of other member in a multi-line group or a holding call and calling the extension of the other member. SOLUTION: The present invention relates to an apparatus 1 for controlling a telephone set 21, 22 comprising a plurality of buttons, including a line/DSS button integrating a line button function and a DSS button function. It is decided whether a pressed button is a line/DSS button; and if the pressed button is the line/DSS button, based on the state of the "my-line button" of the telephone set and the state of the pressed line/DSS button, a processing, including calling the other extension or responding to a call arriving at the other extension, is selected. When the line/DSS button is depressed, the line/DSS button will not be captured but the my-line will be automatically caught; and processing including calling the other extension or responding to the call arriving at the other extension is performed.
