PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method for manufacturing a film capable of efficiently controlling to reduce a retardation value in the thickness direction to the average of retardation values within a plane. SOLUTION: The optically anisotropic film has at least one layer of liquid crystal orientation films and at least one layer of liquid crystal layers on a cellulose acetate propionate film support. The cellulose acetate propionate film contains a plasticizer. The film thickness thereof is within the range of 40-150μm. The optically anisotropic film has a relationship expressed by formula (I) and the retardation value (Rt value) expressed by formula (II) is 60-250 nm, wherein formula (I): (nx+ny)/2-nz>0 and formula (II): ((nx+ny)/2-nz)×d, where nx and ny are refractive indexes within the plane of the cellulose acetate propionate film support in the x and y direction, respectively, nz is a refractive index in the thickness direction and d is a film thickness (nm).
