A channel converter rack 1, Fig. 1, for carrier frequency telephony, accommodates ten unit assemblies 2, formed as removable drawers, and supply and answering equipment 3.Exchange cables 6 (see also Fig. 2a) terminate at multiple plug or socket members 8 which engage complementary socket or plug members 20 on the inner recessed end parts of assemblies 2. From members 20 wiring is taken to patch panels 5 and to further plug or socket members 21 which co-operate with connections at the inner ends of sub-assembly drawers 4, each containing a plurality of removable wiring plates, which are mounted in assemblies 2. Members 8 are releasably fixed in the upper and lower parts of a connection panel 13, Fig. 4a, which also carries guide bolts 11 which co-operate with bolts 12 on assemblies 2. The connection panel 13 is carried by a frame 7, Fig. 2a. At the end remote from members 20, each assembly 2 comprises flanges (shown in Fig. 4a) which slide in guide channels (not shown) in the rack 1.
