The device has a pressing unit comprising two pressing components (66, 66`), where the components are extended from a side of a shoe shank in a region of an inner sole (3) in a pressing position at circumferential sections of a shoe circumference, respectively. The circumferential sections are arranged in a bright condition to each other. The pressing components are alternately lowered from the inner sole. The sections are formed by two longitudinal sides of the shoe shank, where the longitudinal sides are separated by a mid-line of the shoe shank. An independent claim is also included for a method for machining a side edge of a shoe shank that is mounted on a slat.
