An apparatus for gripping a tubular member 100 includes a number of moveable gripper elements 16 which may be moved in axial or radial directions. There may also be present cutting devices 14, packers 36 and a float shoe. The apparatus may be used in a process of expanding a tubular member and the formation of a bell section 112 in the tubular member.
