The operating method for IC engines with fuel injection valves (15) fed with fuel from a storage tank (29) supplied by a pump comprises determining a base value for the injection time. The point at which pressure fluctuations in the fuel first appear is determined and the period between the start point of injection and this point is calculated. A fluctuation correction is calculated from this period and a corrected injection time is derived from it. An independent claim is included for a mechanism for carrying out the method.
