A display device and a fabrication method thereof are provided to reduce the number of processes by patterning a reflective electrode and a pixel electrode in the same manner and to widen a viewing angle of the display device by forming a common electrode and the pixel electrode on the same substrate to generate an in-plane electric field. A substrate(1) is divided into a display area and a peripheral area surrounding the display area. A gate line and a data line intersect each other on the substrate and define a pixel area in the display area. A gate electrode(21) derives from the gate lines, and a common electrode(10) is separated from the gate electrode. A source electrode(51) derives from the data line on the gate electrode, and a drain electrode(52) is separated form the source electrode. A transparent insulating layer pattern(70) is formed in a predetermined area on the data line. A reflective electrode(80) is formed in the predetermined area on the transparent insulating layer pattern and divides the pixel area into a transmissive area(TA) and a reflective area(RA). A pixel electrode(90) overlaps the reflective electrode in the reflective area.
