A closure member for the housing of a semiconductor device includes a cup-shaped metal member 1 having a flanged rim 2, the bottom of the cup-shaped member containing a central aperture 3, a hollow cylinder 4 of electrically insulating material butt-sealed at one end to the external surface of the bottom of the cup-shaped member 1, and a metal plate 5 containing one or more terminal supports 6, 8 butt-sealed to the other end of the cylinder 4. In a closure member for a silicon-controlled rectifier as shown, the member 1 and plate 5 are of copper and are sealed by means of coppersilver eutectic braze to the cylinder 4 which is of ceramic material. Brazed in an aperture in the plate 5 is a main electrode terminal support comprising a copper cylinder 6 drilled from both ends to leave a central portion 7. Butt-sealed to the plate 5 about a second aperture is a ceramic cylinder 10 having butt-sealed to its outer end a nickel-iron alloy plate 9 to which is brazed a trigger-electrode terminal support in the form of a nickel tube 8 belled at its inner end 12 to retain a ceramic tube 11. For ease of assembly, the edge of the aperture 3 may be turned outwards and the plate 5 may be slightly dished. |
