A method for producing a SiOx(x<1) is provided to be suitably used as an anode material for a lithium ion secondary battery that has a large capacity, be not deteriorated by repeated cycles of use, and have low irreversible capacity in the initial charge and discharge. A method for producing a SiOx(x<1) comprises: heating a raw material which generates a silicon oxide gas to a temperature range of 1,100 to 1,600 deg.C in the presence of an inert gas or under a reduced pressure to produce the silicon oxide gas, heating metal silicon to a temperature range of 1,800 to 2,400 deg.C in the presence of an inert gas or under a reduced pressure to generate silicon gas, and precipitating a mixed gas of the silicon oxide gas and the metal silicon gas on a surface of a substrate. The x ranges from 0.3 to 0.9. The raw material which generates the silicon oxide gas is a mixture of a silicon oxide powder or a silicon dioxide powder with a metal silicon powder. |
