Production of a bearing ring (1) comprises arranging inductors (2) over a common zone (a) of an annular track (3) to be hardened, heating the opposite-lying edge layer to the hardening temperature, moving the inductors in opposing directions along the track to heat middle zones (b), directing sprays onto the heated edge layers and quenching from the center to the start of the heated zone, further moving the inductors and spray onto the ring halves until they meet at a zone (c) lying opposite the starting point and forming a common zone and lifting the inductors vertically from the surface of the track after reaching the required hardening temperature and directing the sprays onto the zone (c).
